This artwork is my small offering to that sacred j

This artwork is my small offering to that sacred journey. Donated with love to the SRMD maternity ward, it carries the intention of comfort, hope, and calm for the mothers who will pass through this space, women stepping into one of life’s most transformative chapters, where vulnerability and strength exist side by side.

This is the first of two artworks created especially for this space. A beginning. A gentle opening note. For this piece, I drew inspiration from Gustav Klimt, the Austrian artist whose work has always moved me for the way it celebrates femininity, life, and quiet intimacy. Taking cues from his love for ornamental beauty, I explored surface-level florals flowers that don’t just decorate, but soften, embrace, and hold space.

The warm palette was chosen intentionally. Earthy golds, muted reds, soft yellows, and gentle neutrals come together to create a sense of safety and warmth like a quiet reassurance on the wall. The patterns flow without urgency, inviting the eye to wander slowly, offering a moment of pause in an otherwise intense and emotional journey.

This piece is meant to sit with the mothers, not speak loudly to them. To remind them that they are supported, held, and surrounded by care, even in silence. It is about new beginnings, quiet resilience, and the unseen beauty of becoming.

A small gesture, made with deep intention. The first piece of a pair, carrying love into a space where life begins.

This artwork is my exploration of how the organic meets the synthetic. I worked with jute and plastic….two materials that sit on opposite ends of the spectrum to create a dialogue between nature and human-made textures. I love how the roughness of jute and the smooth flexibility of plastic come together to form something unexpected. It’s a reminder that contrast can be beautiful, and that even opposing materials can find harmony when placed with intention.

Studying at the Royal Academy of Art in Antwerp changed something in me….it didn’t just shape my skills, it triggered a deep, almost obsessive interest in the history of art. Being surrounded by centuries of storytelling, technique, philosophy, and evolution made me realise that art isn’t just created… it’s inherited, questioned, re-imagined, and carried forward.

The more I learned, the more I wanted to know. Every movement, every artist, every shift in style felt like a window into a different world. It made me understand that when I create today, I’m part of a much larger conversation…one that started long before me and will continue long after.
